The shepherd in Jersey City

A pure shepherd and a rottie mix were abandoned in Jersey City after they were used to protect a car repair shop.  The property management company needed the dogs removed from the property, but hesitated in calling animal control because the protective, large dogs would have been euthanized. 

The 2 dogs were first placed placed together with a K-9 security company that seemed reputable.  We paid the vet bills, and the company owner placed new beautiful collars on the dogs!  However, when we wanted to check on the dgos, he gave us the runaround, and when we finally were able to see the dogs, they looked horrendous – the shepherds hair was matted, the rottie mix had some poop on his cheek, and their new collars were nowhere to be seen. 

We took the dogs home with us, uncertain how this would work.   We didn’t know if they would be good kids since they were “junkyard” dogs, and we were told the shepherd was very aggressive with other dogs.  However, in a matter of 3 days, the 2 foster dogs and our 2 dogs and 2 kids were getting along just fine.  In just over a month, the shepherd was living with his loving, adopted family, and the rottie mix was finally adopted by us!  Please enjoy the update below from the wonderful family who adopted the shepherd.

Dear Beth,

Shep (also known as: Marcus) has made a quick and problem-free adjustment to our home and our other older, female dog, Carly. Shep/Marcus is a LOVE OF AN ANIMAL!!!  Gentle, affectionate, welcomes kisses and hugs, mannerly around Carly, very receptive to positive attention, and SMART.

He has integrated beautifully into our household. Kiernan, our daughter, has bonded strongly to the newest member of our family. Shep has really done wonders for her.

Kaiser, our former German Shepherd, was a great dog, but did not socialize as well as Shep around young children. He never bit nor so much as nipped them, but he did not seem to understand the, “midget adults,” in the household, and therefore could not respond as Matthew and Kiernan wished that he would.

We are so fortunate to have found you, and to have received the privilege of welcoming Shep into our family ….  He is well, energetic, eating, and gaining a smidgen of weight – not a great amount, just a few pounds to fill out a bit. Stay well and continue the great work you are doing to give loving shelter to our canine friends.
